Introduction to Canada
Canada contains an overwhelming variety of natural beauty. No matter where you study in Canada, interesting and breathtaking landscapes are just a short walk or bus ride away. There are numerous attractions, such as the famous Niagara Falls and Canadian Rocky Mountains. Canada is well known for its space: vast expanses of prairie and forest with not a building in sight. Canada's geographic location links it to the Pacific Rim countries and to Europe, while acting as an avenue to the United States, Mexico, and Central and South America.

Canada's cities are also beautiful. There are many metropolitan centers, the three largest being Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Yet there are also abundant smaller cities and rural areas, which offer all or most of the educational and other facilities of the big cities. Students can travel inexpensively in Canada by inter-city bus and train. Stand-by air travel is also reasonably priced.

The Canadian education system encompasses both publicly funded and private schools, from kindergarten to university. Education is a provincial responsibility under the Canadian constitution, which means there are significant differences between the education systems of the different provinces. However, standards across the country are uniformly high. Choosing the right combination of courses, college and country is probably one of the most important decisions any international student who wants to study abroad will ever have to face.
Reasons to study
1. Canada is the No. 1 Choice
The United Nations ranked Canada as the best place in the world to live, which was based upon Canada's achievements in terms of educational attainment and general quality of life. The appraisal took account of Canada's comfortable population density, low incidence of violent crime and a health care system that is a model for the world.
2. The Canadian Education System is Excellent
Canada boasts a wide range of quality educational institutions. Canadian degrees and diplomas are recognized worldwide. Canada's contributions to science and other fields of research are well known. Canada's excellent academic research facilities have generated Nobel Prize winners.
3. A Leader in Language Training
Canada has become a world leader in language training, especially in the area of English and French for Academic and Special Vocational Purposes. Most educational institutions offer beginner to advanced programs in English. The language courses are sometimes offered before you begin your regular academic program, but they can also be taken at the same time.
4. Canada is a Multicultural Country
Canada is a multicultural society with two official languages (English and French). Rather than a melting pot, Canada is a cultural mosaic where the customs and traditions of many cultures are recognized and respected.
5. Canada is Peaceful and Clean
Canada is a safe, peaceful, and politically stable country to live in. Its cities are remarkably clean. Canadians are environmentally conscious and are constantly making efforts to ensure excellent air and water quality.
6. Tuition Fees for International Students
Canadian education is highly subsidized by government; Canadian tuition fees are among the lowest in English-speaking countries. Tuition fees vary considerably for international students; students must request precise tuition amounts from the institution they wish to attend. Some institutions offer numerous scholarships, as well as teaching and research assistantships, for which international students are encouraged to compete.
Climate and Clothing
Canada's climate is characterized by its diversity, as temperature and precipitation differ from region to region and season to season. While it is true that in the extreme north temperatures climb above 0℃ for only a few months a year, most Canadians live within 300 km of the country's southern border, where mild springs, hot summers and pleasantly crisp autumns exist for at least 7 months out of the year. What should you bring to Canada? In spring and winter, people wear light spring jackets and sweaters. Appro-priate clothing for the summer season includes: pants, shorts, T-shirts, dresses, blouses, and so forth.
Sports and Leisure
Sport is a major part of society in Canada. Hockey is the most popular spectator sport. American style football and baseball are also very popular as these sports are played all across Canada. More and more participants are even taking part in the traditional sport of curling!
Local Transportation
By Car - Traveling to Canada by car is convenient. Many North or South American interstates and major highways lead directly to the Canadian border. If your vehicle is rented or borrowed, you should have permission to use the vehicle or trailer.
By Bus/Train - Bus and train remain popular and comfortable ways to see Canada. As well, AMTRAK connects several cross-border crossings with the Canadian VIA Rail System.
Sightseeing Places
Toronto - Toronto is one of the world's truly outstanding cities. With a population of over 3 million, Toronto is Canada's largest city. In addition, it is the capital of Ontario, Canada's largest province. Toronto is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, one of North America's five renowned Great Lakes. As an international student Toronto is a great place to travel and study. Toronto has earned its reputation as a safe, clean, peaceful city, with an exciting international population.
Ottawa - Ottawa, one of the most beautiful cities in North America, has much to offer both to those who live there year round and those lucky enough to just come and visit or study in such ambient surroundings. Ottawa enjoys all the life and energy of a national capital. The city is flanked by stunning natural beauty and with a comparatively low population. This secure happy capital is known for its gracious living, clean air, parks and varied cultural activities.
