The HESS Annual National Young Scholar's English School Show and Tell Competition sets the stage for students to showcase both their performance and creative writing talents. Tree House (Four and up) and Club House students are given a choice of three pictures to use as the starting point for an original story that they write themselves and then perform in front of an audience.

Students compete in area competitions before the best performances are selected to compete in the National Championship Finals. The first challenge our students, already ripe with imagination, will encounter is the diligent process of writing and editing multiple drafts to get their stories just right. Teachers will train students on the finer points of public speaking such as body language, facial expression, tone of voice, dramatic delivery and comic timing to prepare them for the big day. The sense of accomplishment these youngsters get from mesmerizing an audience with their own work on the stage is a huge boost to their confidence in English as well as in themselves. The storytelling skills they learn have a very real value for conversational English as do the courage, confidence and humility this event develops.

Already in its first year, students as young as eight years old have shown the ability to keep an audience on the edge of their seats with cleverly crafted tales that are passionately delivered in crystal clear English, with perfect timing and to spell binding dramatic effect. What this amazing school of students will produce next year defies imagination... almost!
