Taoyuan, Chungli, Neili, Lungtan, Bade and Nanken
are much smaller and less crowded than Taipei, while close enough to keep the resources of Taipei readily accessible. The cost of living in these areas is much lower than that of Taipei. A number of multinational corporations have their headquarter offices or factories in this area, as the government has created a special economic zone here.

 
The CKS International Airport is in Taoyuan, making this small city the global gateway to the rest of the island.

The Chiang Kai-shek International Airport is in Taoyuan, making this small city the gateway to the rest of the island. Close to the airport is the Chung Cheng Aviation Museum, the first aviation museum in Asia, displaying hundreds of aircraft models and a control tower simulation. The Taoyuan County Sports Arena, called The Big Egg because of its unique domed architecture in the shape of a white egg, has become a landmark in Taoyuan. It is the largest indoor sports stadium in Taiwan, able to accommodate 14,000 people and provide facilities for 16 different kinds of sports.
 
Chungli is a small city south west of Taipei. It takes about 45 minutes to go there by train from Taipei and 15 minutes from Taoyuan. Seventy percent of the population are of aboriginal Hakka descent. There are two universities in the area, Chungyang Normal University and Chungyuan University. The Yuankuang Buddhist Monastery was built in 1917. It is the earliest Buddhist academy in Taiwan. There is also the Agricultural Experimental Tea Station where government farms try out different varieties of tea. The local specialty is the Chungli Peanut Brittle made of malt sugar and peanut concentrate.

Leofoo Village: an amusement park featuring rides, shows, and food.

Windows on China: a theme park containing miniature versions of major Taiwanese and Chinese landmarks, including Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and the Great Wall of China.

Yingge City: a famous pottery center, featuring a ceramics museum. After the museum, complete your visit with a stroll down 'Old Street' The street features pottery shops, food vendors, and coffee houses. Many of the shops here are owned by craftsman, who design their own teapots, cups and tea sets.

Sanhsia and Dahsi: traditional towns near Taoyuan, each is unique in its own way. Along the streets, houses can be seen that date back over 100 years. Sanshia features a famous temple. Close to Dahsi is Chihu, where the late Chiang Kai Shek is buried along with his son, Chiang Ching Guo

Shihmen Dam: a large reservoir park, perfect for a picnic or relaxing walk.

Tiger Mountain: take a hike in the mountain park on Sunday afternoon. Pack a picnic lunch and hop on bus No. 5 to reach the park.
