We are looking for candidates who are patient, flexible, enthusiastic, energetic and personable. You should also have a good sense of humor and genuinely enjoy working with children. Teaching experience is an advantage, but not necessary. Living abroad or travel experience is also useful. We provide all teaching materials and an excellent one-year Hess TEFL Certification program that includes a comprehensive initial training and four follow up trainings throughout the year. Teaching overseas is an enriching experience allowing individuals to become stronger, wiser and more interesting as people and as professionals.

There are six basic requirements that are necessary to apply for this position. Please do not apply if you cannot fulfill these six requirements, as all teachers must meet the Taiwanese government's regulations to qualify for legal working status. There are no exceptions.

Six Requirements

1. Native English Speaker
   You must have fluent use of English. If English is your second language, it should be just as fluent and clear as your first language. Remember, you are applying for a position to teach young children. You are there to teach proper pronunciation, intonation and grammar. The market in Taiwan prefers the American phonetic system. However, don't panic if you are not American. If you are willing to sound a bit 'American' while teaching phonics and vocabulary, you'll do fine. All it comes down to is attitude and effort.
   
   
2. Hold a passport from a native-English-speaking country
   Only the following countries are recognized by the Taiwanese Bureau of Education as English-speaking countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, The United Kingdom and The United States.
   
   
3. Minimum Education Requirements
   Teachers must have one of the following qualifications to meet the Taiwanese Bureau of Education's minimum educational requirement:
   
   

   • Hess teachers are educated people. They will gain both cultural and professional teaching experience in Taiwan.

     A Bachelor's degree in any discipline OR
     
     
   • An Associate's degree with a TEFL / TESOL Certificate.
     
     The Bureau of Education does not recognize any other form of certification including diplomas, unless you can prove from your school that what you have studied is the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree.
     
     
4. Must be able to sign a one year contract
   All our contracts are one year in duration. In order to follow Taiwanese law, we cannot offer short-term, seasonal or summer contracts.
   
   

5. All native speaking teachers must speak English fluently.

   Must be physically and mentally healthy
   All our teachers must pass a health check in order to gain legal working status.
   
   
6. Criminal Record Check
   You must provide a criminal record statement from your home country.
